For someone who was mere fractions of a second from having an accident at last weekend's track day due to insufficient factory brakes on the previous gen GT500, I can't contain my excitement! At least on the front are carbon, rears are still steel, though massively large. Looks like at least six piston calipers too! This is the first pic I have seen without the infamous wheel covers. If I were to buy the SVT model, I wouldn't want carbon brakes on it. Way too expensive to maintain. Just give me steel rotors with good pads, fluid and cooling ducts. I'll use those extra kilobucks on more events/tires.

Everything I've read about carbon rotors says that they don't wear like steel rotors, and typically will last the life of the vehicle. Am I missing something?

Yes they'll last the "life" of the vehicle with normal street use. You'll have to replace them with regular track use albeit at longer intervals than steel.
Carbon brakes typically can't be resurfaced so any damage to a rotor can mean it needs replacing.
These brakes can still overheat, but it's harder to do. Overheating can cause delamination of the friction layer which also means new rotors.
Personally I see it as too expensive and risky for little performance gain.
If money is no object then sure they'd be very nice to have.

If you're going to track a powerful/heavy car, please take action to address the "insufficient" factory brakes before going out on track. No one wants to be rear-ended because of your brakes. For example, the 414hp, 3700lb M3 has crappy single pistons ATE front brakes, which are not suitable for 25 minute sessions on most tracks. Everyone knows this, so everyone switches to real track pads and high temp fluid (motul 600 works nicely). No more brake issues. Carbon ceramic isn't required to avoid accidents, just common sense and a bit of preparation.

Was not my car or I would have done that as soon as it got home from the dealer.
